THE PSNI/RUC has refused to release a custody photograph of Dermott Mcilveen. The Irish News has asked the NI Police Service for an image of the 40-year-old, who was jailed for nine years yesterday for stabbing four women and punching two others in random attacks in Belfast.
However, the request was declined and the PSNI/RUC had not responded last night when asked why the picture was not being made public. The PSNI/RUC has been criticised in the past for failing to release photographs of convicted criminals to the public. In one case in 2012, police refused to release an image of a man convicted of breaking into a house and sexually assaulting a nine-year-old north Belfast girl while she slept. The following year (2013), the NI Police Service said it would not release images of two men involved in importing £1.2 million worth of drugs into the north.
