"Sure if you can't laugh"
21st July, 2022.
A Co Down bar has added a new cocktail to their menu inspired by the incident involving a wheelie bin in South Belfast during the Twelfth of July celebrations. No 7 Duke Street in Warrenpoint has shared its "tongue-in-cheek take" on the event which has garnered a lot of attention on social media.
The "Window Smasher" is a rum-based cocktail served up in a miniature wheelie bin garnished with passionfruit and a mini Union Jack and Irish Tricolour. Since sharing their post announcing the new menu addition on Facebook, they have received almost 900 likes, over 500 comments and nearly 250 shares.
The post reads: "NEW COCKTAIL ALERT. WINDY SMASHER.
"Our little tongue-in-cheek take on last weeks fun and games in Belfast. Sure if you can't laugh
"Our secret recipe has a double shot of Rum. Drop of cream and dash of bitters is optional".
The incident was caught live on video and a short time later a statement was released by UVF mouthpiece Jamie Bryson in which he claimed the band thought a bomb was thrown at them. 🤣🤣🤣😅😅
On July 12, a video circled on social media showed a bin being thrown at an Orange order parade as it passes through the Holyland area. A band playing music is seen passing through Agincourt Avenue.
At that point, a person comes out of a house on the street and throws a small bin at the band members before returning back into the house. A man then appears to lift a wheelie bin and throw it at the front window of the building that the first man had run into.
A PSNI statement on Friday evening said: "A 29-year-old man attended voluntarily for interview following an incident at the Agincourt Avenue area of South Belfast on Tuesday 12th July.
With many thanks to: Belfast Live and Sophie McLaughlin for the original publication.
