                4th November, 2022.
A serving PSNI/RUC officer has been arrested in Belfast on suspicion of offences which include paying for sexual services.

The arrest was carried out on Tuesday by staff at the Police Ombudsman's office for Northern Ireland, with its investigation ongoing.

The officer has also been arrested on suspicion of committing the offence of misconduct in public office for alleged abuse of position for sexual purposes and unauthorised access to PSNI computer systems contrary to Section 1 & 2 of the Computer Misuse Act.
The actions of the PSNI officer in this           sickening act can only be described               as utterly depraved and pure                                 sectarianism

The Police Ombudsman for North of Ireland, currently Mrs Marie Anderson, investigates complaints from citizens about the conduct of police officers.

She also investigates instances referred by the police or other justice bodies "if they feel it is in the public interest that a concern about the conduct of police officers should be the subject of an independent investigation".

Although none of the Ombudsman's staff are employed by the PSNI/RUC, they do have some of the same legal powers as police officers.

During the course of an investigation they can carry out searches, seize equipment and if necessary arrest police officers, for example.

The PSNI said that it was a matter for the Police Ombudsman and any queries should be referred to them.
