Civic reception for All-Ireland-Camogs to take place in Belfast
Antrim's Maria McLarnon and Emma Laverty lift the Kay Mills Cup
A CIVIC reception to celebrate the All-Ireland win by Antrim's junior camogs is to take place in Belfast City after Causeway Coast and Glens Council's major Ivor Wallace declined to host it there.
Belfast Lord Mayor Tina Black said she was "delighted to extend an invitation" to mark the "huge sporting achievement for the country".
The invitation came days after DUP Mayor Ivor Wallace was criticised for declining to host a cross-community reception for the All-Ireland champion team in the Causeway Coast and Glens Council borough where many of the girls are from.
In a social media post, Mr Wallace, pictured above, said cross-community groups would be his focus.
"I have absolutely no intention of having a reception for any organisation wedded to one side or the other," he said.
Yesterday, Belfast Lord Mayor Tina Black said: "I am delighted to extend an invitation to the Antrim Camógs to Belfast City Hall following their recent All-Ireland title win.
"This is a huge sporting a achievement for the country and I am extremely proud of the effort these girls put in to bring the All-Ireland Junior Championship trophy to Antrim.
"It's important that we not only celebrate and recognise this success, but also promote the physical and mental benefits of sport and the contribution of Antrim GAA to the life of this city."
